Teaching (Qilu) Hospital of Shandong University (QHSU) is one of teaching hospitals under the Ministry of public Health of PRC. Dramatic change have taken place in QHSU since the establishment of the hospital more than a 100 years ago in 1890, and been even more evident since the implementation of the Party’s policy of reform and opening to outside world. From a small missionary clinic, the hospital has now become a well-known, well-equipped medical complex with full functions of medical service, teaching, scientific research and preventive care.
QHSU is located on the side of beautiful Baotuquan (LeapSpringPark), covering an area of 86 mu .there are 1791 staffmenbers in the hospital, including 92 professors (or equivalents), 289 associated professors (or equivalents) and 733 lecturers (or equivalents). QHSU consists of 32 clinical departments, 6 research institutes (or laboratories), 23 administrative units, 11 doctorate-conferring specialties (31 doctoral supervisors), 25 master-degree-conferring specialties (150 master supervisors), 18 provincial outstanding personals, 69 beneficiaries enjoying special governmental subsidy, 3 key specialties at the provincial level, 6 key specialties at provincial health bureau level, 8 key specialties at the university level. The hospital is also functioning as national clinical pharmacology base and post-doctoral training station .The hospital has put a total of 1310 sick-beds in service, with an annual population of 1.05 million outpatients, 25,000 discharges patient and 12,000 operated cases. QHSU has edited and published 5 academic jourmals and newspapers.
Guided by the principal of “revitalizing the hospital through science and technology “, QHSU is increasing its investment in scientific research exampled by founding multiple research funds and enacting the regulations on inner-hospital outstanding personal. In the last 9 years, 326 research projects have been granted by the higher authorities, amounting to more than 9 million RMB. Four projects were rewarded by the National Committee of Science and Technology, more than 40 projects were rewarded by the provincial committee of Science and Technology as first-or second-rank awards and 62 projects were rewarded as national inventions or patents,amoung which 5 projects were rewarded by 9 times as golden awards in either international or national expositions .QHSU holds the responsibility of annual 6000 hours teaching task for the undergraduates in the university and 2/5 training duties of internship and residency for the university. Since the restoration of enrolment system of postgraduate, 83 doctorate-pursuing students and 747 master-pursuing students have been conferred on their titles. More than 60% of medical personal have postgraduate degree and 43% nursing staff have a higher record of formal schooling. In the history of the hospital development,

QHSU possesses 700 pieces or sets of large medical equipment, totaling up to more than 200 million RMB.many large instruments and their clinical application have reached advanced international level.
The development of the hospital, information science in particular, has been greatly accelerated and enhanced by the party’s policy of reform and opening to outside world. QHSU is now devoting more efforts to informational and academic exchange with foreign countries. More than 400 specialized personals have been sent abroad for further purposes such as studying, training, visiting, inspecting or attending international conferences. The hospital has established a constant sister-relationship for academic exchange with Medical School of Utah University, University of Connecticut Medical School, Kentucky University Medical School (USA), QueenslandUniversity (Australia), Medical School of Wakayama University (Japan) and New Siberia Institute of Circulation Pathology (Russia), and etc. In the last decade. QHSU has received 160 or more delegations of scholars form various countries for academic exchange, greatly improving our teaching and research.
QHSU attaches great importance to spiritual civilization reconstruction, actively promotes the cultural development, and pays much attention to ideological and
Political education of our staff members. In recent years, QHSU has been elected ‘National Model Collective of Health System’, ‘Shandong Provincial Model Unit of Health System’, ‘Civilization Hospital of Shandong Province’, ‘Shandong Provincial Model Collective of Administration of Overseas’, ‘Shandong Provincial Model Collective of Health care For Senior Cadres’, ‘Jinan Model Collective of Greenization, Hygiene, Family Planning and Safeguarding’. Several departments have been honorably named as ‘National Youth Civilization’, ‘Model Post of Women’s Merits’. The hospital was elected ‘Grade 3 Rank A’ hospital in 1994.
